How To Be Involved

There are 3 main ways to be involved directly with Finding the Way.  Please read below to see how you may feel you need to respond.  Read about the areas of need as well as specifically how to make a donation.    Also, click below and watch the video to learn more!

WAYS TO BE INVOLVED

1.)  ADOPT-A-VILLAGE!

You can have a direct impact on people's lives by Adopting-a-Village.  Adopt a group for one, two, or all phases of their resettlement.  Be a direct sponsor to help with resettlement.  We work with some groups that have or are receiving the basic resettlement but who need sponsorship for the on-going process.  Then, we are always wanting to start new groups to resettle.  So, it is needed and ok to Adopt any area of need for a village group.

Adopting-a-Village is a great project for you to sponsor.  Maybe your church, small group, youth group, sports team, family, or club would want to sponsor a Phase of Resettlement.  It is a very doable project.  You could have the money with a few simple fundraisers.  Read below for more fundraising ideas!  If you want to Adopt one or all phases of a group's resettlement, contact us to learn more!  We will walk you through the process.  It is easy.

Phases of Resettlement

Phase 1

Returning Home

  • Clearing of land
  • Construction of huts
  • Construction of basic pit latrines for sanitation
  • Planting food crops
  • Providing oxen and plow
  • Meeting in fellowship for teaching and encouragement
  • Long-term relational investment

Cost:  $3900

Phase 2

Vocational Training and Income-Generating Projects/Work

  • Learn skills like tailoring, knitting, craft-making, art, rice production, ground nut production, bee keeping, construction, masonry, etc. in order to have work that can provide income
  • Supply the start-up materials for the project
  • Provide instructors and instruction

Cost:  $1500

Phase 3

Clean Water Sources/Sanitation/Fertilizer

  • Construct a clean water source. This could be a shallow well or a bore hole, depending on the location and sponsorship.
  • Use human liquid waste for fertilizer on crops. Use a system that allows for sanitary and purposed human waste use.

Cost:  Depends on the exact type of water source and location.  A shallow or hand-dug well cost is $2000.  A deep, machine-drilled bore hole is $10,000.

Phase 4

Start/Build a School or Starting a Medical Clinic

  • Construct school buildings
  • Sponsor training and payment for teachers
  • Fund a medical facility or clinic

Cost:  Contact us for plans and cost, as it varies widely depending on the nature of the work.

FTW will be in touch with you to give updates about the group you are sponsoring.

2.) MAKE A GENERAL DONATION!

You do not need to do a full sponsorship in order to contribute and greatly help with resettling people in northern Uganda and supporting Finding the Way.  General funds are used for extra giving to communities and people who have special needs (i.e. - medical needs, school fees for children, livestock and seeds for families already resettled).  They are also used for FTW team to make visits to areas to identify new groups, meet with people, and continue with follow-up to groups already settled.  General funds are also needed for FTW basic expenses, which allow us to be here and do the operational work.

Donations one time or on a regular basis make a huge difference in what FTW is able to do.  If you want to give and help out, this is an excellent way to do that without actually adopting a specific village.  You are making the work possible and giving to extra needs of people!!  Please think about giving to FTW on a regular basis to support the overall work here.

COME AND HELP!

Opportunities are here for small groups and individuals to come and serve.  You may want to come in general, or you may want to come to support and meet your adopted group.  FTW also welcomes medical teams to do health care and health education.  Contact us for more information on how to come and what you can do!!

HOW TO GIVE!

Finding the Way is a registered Community Based Organization (CBO) in Uganda.  FTW, though, operates through Grace Covenant Community Church in Middleburg, PA, USA.  The church is a 501(c)3 registered non-profit in the United States.  They handle the finances of FTW.  Any donation should be given through the church, stipulating FTW to receive the donation.  FTW does have an account Uganda, and funds can be received here.  But, for receipts and if you are giving from the U.S., then giving through GCCC is best and easiest.

You can give here on the website directly through PayPal using your debit/credit card.  Simply click the Donate button below.  You can also mail a donation or set up an auto-pay option with GCCC (Contact Us/Links).  Feel free to do this at any time - especially if you are making a general donation.  All donations are tax-deductible.

If you want to give toward an Adopt-a-Village phase, contact us and let us know.  We will get you started on that process.  Don't hesitate to contact FTW or GCCC with any questions or concerns.

FUNDRAISING IDEAS!

The $10 Campaign!

  • Have your church take one Sunday where they encourage every person in attendance give just$10. In one week at most churches, that would easily be enough to sponsor phase 2. Some churches could easily sponsor phase 1 in one Sunday. If you wanted to do it twice - like once a month - then most churches could easily sponsor phase 1 or more. It is a quick and easy way to raise money and have the people in your church community be directly involved.

Buy the Items!

  • Make a board with the various items of a village sponsorship (eg. oxen, grass roofing, fuel, seeds, etc.). Have the item and it's cost in dollars. Have people pick that item and "buy" it. People are then purchasing each specific part of the resettlement process. This is a great way for people to feel directly connected to the group, as they know exactly what they are giving towards. FTW can produce the breakdown of costs for this kind of fundraiser.

Have a Special Dinner!

  • You are probably aware of how organizations and politicians will have special fundraising dinners.  There is a meal, and you pay a certain amount to "buy your seat."  So, you can put on a good meal and have some kind of simple program, but people will "buy their seat," not only their meal.  You can have it be a $25, $50, or $100 seat, for example.
  • You could also do a paid potluck.  To save you the struggle to prepare the meal or pay for it to be catered, do a normal potluck.  BUT, have people buy their meal, even though they may have brought their own casserole as well.

All the Usual!

  • Carwash
  • Sell food items
  • Have a yard sale where people buy their space
  • Do a "walk" and get sponsors
